The cooperative is made up of a small but growing number of people interested in self-education and group learning while utilizing free/affordable/open resources.
We are embarking on an experiment in open education, one based on exploiting these resources and employing a large amount of peer feedback. Using these materials, we intend to compile individualized open courses to be used by us as well as shared with other open course ware communities.
Right now we are trying to get the word out to invite as many new learners as possible. We would like interested individuals to help shape our efforts and our trajectory; at this point nothing is set.
Once the group has enough commited individuals, we will work on organizing a consistent schedule of meetings where members can come together to discuss the subjects they would like to explore, create a course syllabus for themselves, and begin independent learning in their chosen field.
The cooperative will provide all necessary training on doing this; no potential learner needs to have experience with finding reputable educational resources or learning management systems. Time and a desire to learn are the only requirements.
The final goal for all of this is to add to the open courseware movement, in resource and participation, to the point of providing full accredited college education that is free and open to everyone.
